Work in Progress – Please Do Not Quote Weights and Scales: a Discussion of Influences on Responses to Health State Valuation Questions

This paper considers the process of valuation of health states and provides a categorisation of potential influences on responses. The paper demonstrates that responses are likely to be sensitive to a wide range of influences, many of which represent sources of bias. An area where further work is required concerns the appropriateness and importance of including, within the valuation, preferences relating directly to the scales used to infer value.
